Development and evaluation of a context-driven, mobile tourist guide

چکیده
The behavior of tourists strongly depends on the availability and quality of information. Little information as well as a flood can be disorienting and forces many tourists to join the majority visiting major sights. This causes a few crowded places in contrast to many under-utilized. A Destination Management Organization (DMO) has the goal to spread the tourists more evenly, whereas the tourists would like to enjoy the destination to its full potential according to their personal interests. The target of the Dynamic Tour Guide (DTG) is supporting both goals by means of pervasive computing based on the actual context which is defined by personal interests, location and schedule of a tourist. It enables a personalized, spontaneous and guided tour. A field trial was conducted in the summer of 2005 to study the following questions as a precondition for the development: (1) Is it possible to seed generic interest profiles in the mobile context that allow the accurate prediction of actual rankings? (2) Are the interest profiles sufficiently diverse to base personalized tours on individual interest profiles instead of interest prototypes? (3) How do personalized tours affect the spatial behavior of tourist? Three methods to elicit the generic preferences of tourist in the mobile context are compared with actual rankings using Spearman’s rank order coefficient. The diversity of the interest profiles is analyzed in various ways leading to the conclusion that personalized interest profiles are necessary. For the gathered profiles tours are being computed and simulated in order to gain a first insight into the effect on the spatial behavior of tourists.

Development of CBR-BDI Agents: A Tourist Guide Application
In this paper we present an agent-based application of a wireless tourist guide that combines the Beliefs-Desires-Intentions approach with learning capabilities of Case Base Reasoning techniques. This application shows how to develop adaptive agents with a goal driven design and a decision process built on a CBR architecture. The resulting agent architecture has been validated by real users who...
متن کاملBuilding a Context-aware Mobile Tourist Guide System Base on a Service Oriented Architecture
The term of context in mobile computing area especially in the spatio-temporal applications introduces a rich source of information, yet it has less been regarded and modelled in the related fields. Since a tourist may be considered as a moving object in an environment with variable contexts, therefore tourist guide applications and services is taken into account as an application area for the ...
متن کاملContext driven, adaptive tour computation and information presentation
Standard tours combined with lack of information make many tourists miss some important experiences a destination has to offer. The target of the Dynamic Tour Guide (DTG) is to discover Tour Building Blocks (TBB), e.g. attractions like sights or restaurants, dependent on the actual context which is defined by personal interests, location and schedule of a tourist. It determines current informat...
متن کاملModel Driven Adaptation and Usability for Context Aware User Interfaces
In recent years, given the development of networks and technological innovations, the user mobility has increased so much. That is why the interactive applications must be executed on both mobile devices as PDAs, mobile phones and PC. The user is then progressing in a varied and dynamic environment. Therefore, the challenges of the User Interface are related to the adaptation to the context of ...
متن کاملImogI: Take Control over a Context-Aware Electronic Mobile Guide for Museums
Cultural/Tourist mobile guides are becoming common aids to combine information transfer with a guidance service. Mobile guides for pedestrians provide their users with locationspecific information, e.g. based on GPS coordinates. In certain situations the process of giving location-specific information is relatively static, such as in a city where the buildings and tourist sites are not likely t...
